Our Professional Pilot Course is your first step in becoming a professional helicopter pilot. Successful completion of this course will mean that you have earned the appropriate ratings required by the FAA and professional employers to work as a pilot.

The pivotal certification is the Commercial Pilots License. Once you have achieved an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, you may now be compensated to fly a helicopter

We also offer courses such as the FAA Instrument Rating and FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate (allows you to teach others how to fly). Each additional certificate gives you an increased skill set and marketability in the aviation industry.

Enrollment in our helicopter pilot training program is simple….

Curriculum:

Your ground training will involve knowledge of helicopter systems and pre-flight actions, aerodynamics and principles of aircraft flight, weight, balance and density altitude calculations, radio communications and flight safety.

Your Private Pilot flight training will consist of a minimum of 45 hours dual flight training, 10 hours of solo flight, pre & post flight procedures, airport and heliport operations, hovering maneuvers, takeoffs and landings, performance maneuvers, navigation and night operations…to name just a few.

Time Line:

As you would expect, different levels of training require different schedules and study time; however, our experience suggests you should anticipate a minimum of 3 flight blocks of time per week. A flight block typically lasts 2 hours and consists of a pre and post flight briefing, preflight inspection of the helicopter and about 1.0 to 1.5 hours of actual flight time.

The ground school component with your instructor involves approximately a minimum of 6 hours per week and will vary from student to student and from course to course. In regard to your individual study time, you can expect to invest no less than 12 hours per week. A good rule of thumb is, for every hour of ground training with your instructor, you can anticipate approximately 2 hours of independent study.

Aircraft:

US Flight Academy (rotorcraft division) has several means of maximizing your training requirements and needs. We utilize the best selling and most reliable piston helicopter in the world. The Robinson R-22 Beta II.

The R-22 Beta II is the premier entry level, 2 seat training helicopter and provides a cost effective and safe way to achieve your training needs. Safety is our number one priority and we strictly adhere to a pilot weight restriction of 210 lbs.

Should you require a larger helicopter, USFA also incorporates the Robinson R-44. The Robinson R-44 is a 4 place, piston powered helicopter that provides additional lifting capabilities, faster cruise speeds, and a pilot comfort that is unsurpassed in the helicopter market.

We can be substitute any part of your Professional Pilot Course with the R-44. If you are enrolled with us and are flying the R-22, but would like to experience the larger and faster R-44, no problem...all of our students enrolled in our Professional Pilot Training will receive at least 25 hours in the R-44.
