Course Description - Commercial Pilot

Overview:  The Commercial Pilot Course builds upon the knowledge you received in your private pilot training. It also introduces the privileges and limitations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration for commercial pilots. The course consists of 2 parts which build upon knowledge received in private pilot training.

Enrollment Prerequisites: The student must hold a valid Private Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter Certificate and a current 3rd class medical prior to beginning flight training.

Aircraft: The Robinson R-22 Beta II is typically used at this level of training. For safety reasons, US Flight Academy has implemented a pilot weight restriction of 210 lbs. The Robinson R-44 can be substituted to complete the Private Pilot Training at an additional cost.    

Ground Training
• Helicopter systems
• Aerodynamics& principles of helicopter flight
• Weight, balance and density altitude calculations.
• Use of performance charts & effects of exceeding limitations
• Night & high altitude operations
• Meteorology
• Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) & the National Airspace System (NAS)


Flight Training
At completion of course, student will meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements to include (but not limited to):

• Pre and post flight procedures
• Airport & heliport operations
• Hovering maneuvers, takeoffs, landings & go-around procedures
• Performance maneuvers & navigation
• Emergency operations & SFAR 73 Flight training (R-22)
• Special operations & commercial scenarios
